For the first time ever, Whananaki now has its very own radio station. Broadcasting around the clock, the station went live from Whananaki General Store on Sunday, August 31st, bringing the community 24/7 entertainment on 88.2FM and the iHeartRadio App.

Whananaki FM delivers local news every hour, alongside updates from Newstalk ZB, plus marine weather, surf, and fishing reports for the coast. The station also showcases local voices, with residents sharing stories, views, and music on air.

To celebrate the launch, the station hosted a community event where locals helped select songs for the playlists. “It was great to see everyone get involved, enjoy some food, and tune into their own radio station,” said deputy programming coordinator Dallas Gurney.

Whananaki FM is now live and bringing the community closer, one song and story at a time.
