Coastguard Tutukaka – Guardians of Northland’s Waters
Established in 1998, Coastguard Tutukaka is an award-winning volunteer unit committed to maritime safety along the Northland coast. Operating from a floating dock at Tutukaka Marina, the unit is strategically positioned to respond swiftly to emergencies within its expansive 500-square-nautical-mile area, encompassing the Rimariki Islands, Bream Head, and extending to the Poor Knights Islands.
Equipped with a 9-metre AC36 Protector vessel, the unit is well-prepared to handle the increasing maritime traffic between Auckland and the Bay of Islands, especially during peak seasons. Tutukaka’s status as a major game fishing hub and home to the Whangarei Deep Sea Anglers’ Club underscores the significance of this unit’s operations.
Training is held weekly on Thursdays at 18:30 at Tutukaka Marina, ensuring that volunteers are well-prepared to tackle the challenges of the region’s dynamic maritime environment.
