Hikurangi School
Hikurangi School is a vibrant, full primary school (Years 1–8) located in rural Northland, in the heart of the Hikurangi township. With a deep sense of community, the school celebrates both academic achievement and cultural diversity. A standout feature is its Nga Whetu class ~ a bilingual immersion stream teaching in te reo Māori, where students learn within a strong cultural framework.
Hikurangi School is committed to holistic wellbeing ~ not just academic success ~ focusing on students’ physical, mental, social, and emotional hauora. Their learning culture is innovative and engaging, with play-based education integrated into the curriculum to spark creativity, resilience, and social interaction.
Rooted in a rich history, the school first opened in 1883 and continues to serve as a cornerstone of the community more than a century later. Families are welcomed to join a nurturing environment where learning, culture, and community come together to support every child.
